 How MSLC Tutoring Works

  • Drop-in means that no appointment is necessary.  Just come on in!
  • Many students use the tutoring center as a place to do their math homework between classes. It's like studying in the library or coffee shop but with the added benefit of a tutoring there to help. Feel free to bring your coffee with you.
  • We have pods of tables so bring your friends/classmates to work on homework together.
  • You can ask specific homework questions about where you've gotten stuck, have uncertainty in your method, or are not sure how to start.  You can also ask big picture questions regarding topics you're confused about.
  • To help you succeed, we will provide hints, ask questions to help you think about the mathematics in different ways, and assist you in making realizations on your own.  We must be careful not to solve problems for you. Not only is that academic misconduct but it doesn't help you learn!  Ultimately we want you to be doing as much of the mathematics as possible so you can succeed independently on your quizzes and exams.
  • To maintain a welcoming and professional environment, all students and tutors are required to follow the OSU Student Code of Conduct while in MSLC spaces or engaging in tutoring.

Lightbulb Additional helpful tidbits:

  • Use an App such as notability or OneNote to keep your homework work organized.  This will help you study, practice writing out work for exams, and will aid tutors in assisting you.
  • Rather than googling for solutions if you're stuck, go to online tutoring to get more personalized help.  Solutions will give you the answer but ultimately you need to be able to solve problems on quizzes and exams.  Tutoring is more effective long term.
